                  Role Summary

The California Office of Digital Innovation helps deliver better services to the people of California through technology and design. In close partnership with our colleagues in other state departments, we reimagine and deliver more equitable and effective programs and products. We listen to Californians who use a program now or may do so tomorrow and hear about what they need. We build tools and products, create and enhance digital services, conduct research, identify data solutions and offer training. We are a cross-discipline staff with blended backgrounds in design, engineering, product, operations, data, research, policy and strategy.

We’re looking for an Insights Analyst - Web/Digital Experience to join our small (3), but growing, Insights/Data team at the California Office of Digital Innovation (ODI). As an Insights Analyst, you’ll work with our partner agencies that deliver services and programs to nearly 40 million Californians. You’ll use tools like Google Analytics and Search Console, combined with large public and commercial datasets (think, U.S. Census) to perform deep-dive analysis of the user experience across ca.gov domains and make recommendations to improve service design and delivery. You’ll also help provide training and support to our partners as they gather, use and apply data to continuously improve the services the state provides to Californians.

We’re a remote-first office made up of designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers and you can be located anywhere in California.

                  Key Objectives

Objective #1: Collect and analyze data, identifying problems and recommending solutions that will help our partners deliver their services to and create exceptional experiences for Californians
                  • Analyze behavioral data to identify patterns and uncover opportunities for improvements to user experience, flow conversion and retention
                  • Identify the metrics/KPIs that clearly connect the state website data to the outcomes our partners are working to achieve
                  • Build impactful and easily consumable dashboards, reports and presentations
                  • Use storytelling to present complex data in ways that are meaningful and actionable for our team and our partners
                  • Identify administrative, third-party and original research that could add value to the analysis of state website data
Objective #2: Help drive awareness and adoption of user-centered and data-driven methodologies by our partners as they work to continuously improve the services the state provides to Californians
                  • Identify opportunities for expanded use of website data across all state websites
                  • Participate in discussions, openly sharing knowledge and demonstrating the value of data-driven practices for technical and non-technical partners
                  • Recommend training and adoption benchmarks for early, mid and advanced user departments
                  • Lead and support in-person and virtual trainings to groups of technical and non-technical staff across multiple state departments
                  • Contribute to government-wide efforts to support data best practices
Objective #3: Contribute to the growth and development of the Data/Insights practice at ODI
                  • Share your work in an unfinished state and give peer feedback in critique sessions
                  • Support a safe, inclusive workplace and a positive team culture where all team members value diversity and individual differences
                  • Work with colleagues to expand Google Analytics training curriculum, adding and incorporating training modules that align with the needs of our teams and partners
